One of the secrets of beautiful smooth skin are essential fatty acids that are found in all of Essentially Exotic's body butters and facial creams. These products are gold mines of health and nutrition. Essentially Exotic uses predominately essential oils to scent products, although some cosmetic grade fragrances are used throughout the range due to market demand. Essentially Exotic products are people, animal, environment and earth friendly. SHEA BUTTER, COCOA BUTTER & BEESWAX These three base ingredients are the mainstay of the range. These ingredients were specifically chosen for the following reasons: Shea Butter Moisturises by penetrating deeply into your skin, giving it back elasticity. It will revitalise, soften and maintain moisture to your skin without greasiness. Unique to Shea Butter is its high content of non-saponifiable fats. This natural fatty acid is felt at the cellular level and contributes to the regeneration process of dry and wrinkled skin. It is also used for treating sore and aching muscles. Shea Butter has a high content of Vitamins A, E and F. These vitamins will provide your skin with all the essential elements it needs for good skin balance. Shea Butter also heals and soothes irritated skin, relieves itching, smooths wrinkles and age spots, cures nappy rash and soothes and nourishes after shaving and waxing. Shea (Vitellaria paradoxa, syn. Butyrospermum parkii, B. paradoxa) is a tree indigenous to Africa. The Shea fruit, called a nut, contains a seed much like an avocado, from which is extracted Shea butter, which has multiple uses. Shea trees take approximately 31 years to reach maturity. Shea nut butter is a slightly greenish or ivory-coloured natural fat extracted from fruit of the Shea tree by crushing and boiling. There are three ways of extracting Shea butter. The butter is mostly extracted by local women by heating, crushing and then boiling the nuts. In doing so, water is introduced to the product, which can turn the product rancid. In order to get rid of the water, the butter is boiled to evaporate the water. The second, more preferred method, is by pressing the nuts in a mill. This sort of extraction produces superior butter, however, it is difficult to find due to lack of funds for mills. The third type of extraction is done with hexane. This extraction achieves the highest yield of butter. However, since it is a chemical extraction it is not preferred for medicinal purposes. While a clean extracted butter is best for its overall healing ability, some may prefer a cosmetic grade butter that has been highly refined of impurities and aroma, although most of the natural properties and abilities of Shea butter are stripped away when refined and it is much less effective and versatile than the unrefined butter. Most Shea butter available on the market is refined using fullers clay and a vacuum extraction method to eliminate Shea butter's unpleasing aroma. However, the aroma of unrefined Shea butter disappears within minutes as the butter absorbs into the skin. Cocoa Butter Cocoa Butter is also known as oil of the obroma (Latin for food of the gods). Cocoa Butter is obtained from the fruit of the cacao tree. From its seed kernels the butter is extracted to obtain a creamy coloured butter (unrefined) which distinctly has the aroma of white chocolate. It is ideally suited for use in cosmetics and toiletries. It is solid at room temperatures, but melts easily on contact with the skin. Properties : • Prevents drying of the skin and development of wrinkles. • Reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores skin flexibility. • Like Shea Butter its benefit is its use as an emollient to soften the driest of skins. • It is said to be beneficial in the treatment and prevention of stretchmarks if applied daily to the abdomen, breasts and thighs. Beeswax Essentially Exotic has been fortunate enough to be supplied with 100% organic beeswax. Their supplier collects his honey and wax from the ranges in southern Queensland and uses boiling spring water to clean the wax. No other process is used. The aroma of honey is deliciously predominant.
